Excelsior vs. Citrus Valley

Sarah hitting a free throw.

Citrus Valley handed our Lady Eagles their first loss of the season in the Victor Valley Christian Tournament.  The Eagles jumped out to an early 8-4 lead, but then momentum shifted in favor of Citrus Valley.  The Eagles had a pretty good game offensively, with Sarah Humphrey and Louiana Salazar leading the Lady Eagles with 11 points each. Louiana also led the team in assists with 2, steals with 4, and blocked shots with 3.
Katie Bevan and Kory Washington led the team in rebounds, each grabbing 6 boards.
Courtney Sillings and Sarah Humphrey were both 1-2 from the free throw line.

Due largely in part to a quick second quarter start, the Eagles lost the lead and would go on to eventually lose the game by a score of 37-58

The Eagles talk it over near the end of the 4th.

Notes: This was the Excelsior Lady Eagles first game of the season (0-1). Loui Salazar currently leads the team in points (Tied with Sarah Humphrey), blocks, steals, assists, and 3 pointers. Every single member of the team saw significant playing time throughout the course of the game. The Eagles will take on Riverside Prep at Victor Valley Christian at 6:00pm on Friday, December  3rd.

The Up and Under

This is a move that we want all of our players to know, especially the post players.  The move is called the "up and under."  You all saw Sarah execute it to perfection at practice on Friday.  It can be super-effective against even great defenders.  It consists of a pivot, a ball fake, and a pivot back toward the basketball for a short shot or layup.  Below is a series of YouTube videos demonstrating how the move should look and breaking it down into easy-to-follow steps.  Add it into your workouts over the break and we will all be a more effective team in time for our first game.

Team Captains

You ladies voted last night, and here are your choices for team captains.

Louiana "Louie" Salazar
Sarah "Up and Under" Humphrey
Courtney "The Taco Demolisher" Sillings

Be sure to congratulate the captains.  We are confident that they will lead us to victory!
